READ A LOT OF MAILS ABOUT MANA / HUTTER RACKS.
SUPPOSE THESE TWO ARE TOP OF THE RANGE.
I INTEND TO BUY NAIT5 / CD 5 / CREDO BUT DO NOT HAVE A CLUE IF AN EXPENSIVE RACK CAN IMPROVE SOUND-QUALITY. IF IT DOES, GUES SO, WHAT WOULD BE A REASONABLE AMOUNT TO SPEND AND WHICH RACK (PRICE/VALUE) WOULD SUIT BEST.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hi Ewoud,

For Hutter prices check out Longtone Hifi in Vienna.

Get yourself to a dealer and ask him to advise you.

Any good dealer will know the equipment you are interested in and, after asking for some information about your listening envronment, be in a postion to advise you of the most suitable supports.

You may then ask the dealer to prove that the rack he is reccommending is really worth the Swiss Francs he is asking for.

In my humble opinion (and it's getting less humble by the day) you may be best spending some time experimenting with the furniture you may have at home to get the best result you can and then look on stands as an upgrade like any other. You will then be armed with the knowledge of the optimal locations in your listening room and what is achievable for a little effort and bugger all money.

All the best

Dave

Not necessarily the best advice, Dave; most dealers I have come across will try to sell whatever racks they personally stock - they would go out of business if they didn't - and will probably not mention Hutter or Mana unless directly questioned. The best advice I would give to someone is to try to hear everything that you can, and make your own mind up. There are many decent individuals on this and other forums who would be only to happy to let you hear a Hutter or a Mana rack if you are in the area - myself included.

John (not a big fan of the average hifi dealer)

I too have had bad experiences with dealers (or should that be retailers).

But in my experience, a decent dealer will select his stock on the basis of merit and should be in a position to offer advice and demonstrate the most suitable options effectively.

This is what those margins are for.

I would emphasise the importance of finding yourself a decent dealer and merely taking the opinions of magazines and forum contributors as a guide to producing a shortlist of likely candidates. At the end of the day, travelling to a better dealer further away may well be money and time well spent in the long run.

Anyone any experience of Swiss dealers?

Mana of course is another matter and offer a money back system of evaluation.
