I don't know if anybody else experiences what I do, but all too often I work on a response or topic as I did this morning for an hour or more, only to be told the "username" must be filled in or some such nonsense when I click on " Post Now" I know I was logged in. But by the time I try to get past the message about "username" I lose the topic or reply.
I don't understand what I am doing wrong, and I cannot figure it out. Fred |

Frederick,
have you got you cookies enabled on your browser. The forum recognises us only if its message is on our hard drive from before. It says Hello 'Bryonbay' (my username) only when I'm using the home computer. At work now also I logged on and answered yes when asked if I wanted the computer to be remembered. I've lost posts before(and my post tend to be a bit rambling and long) I often highlight all that I've written then right click 'Copy' before I post so that it can all be 'paste'd back again if the worst happens Hope I barking up the right elm |

Of course. The right button. I have been looking all over the monitor screen for something to save my work. Never thought of the right button. As for saving cookies. I will think through what you have said. I am not great on working the computer, but I will make the effort. Fred the troll |

Got what you were saying in the rest of your reply. Yes the computer does welcome me, and yes the password is remembered, and yes I sign in. I seem to get all that right, but every so often, and usually after spending time to work something up, when I click on that "Post Now" button I get a message saying the "UserName" must be filled in, or something like that. You have not shed light on the why of my problem, but I probably have a solution by using the right button and saving my work when I get that message. Thanks |

Also try the "Back" button (top left hand corner of Internet Explorer/Netscape). The browser has usually cached the page (and text) you've just typed.

Hi Andy
Now I am feeling stupid. Thanks for pointing it out. Fred the troll |

I use them to mark the post and copy it to the memory before I press the post, so if anything happens (and sometimes it does) it is easy to restore the post.

If I have more than a couple of sentences to say, I tend to write offline using a text editor and then paste into the reply box. This is mainly because my free connection logs me out after 5 mins of inactivity but would get around your problem.
Cheers |
