The only thing anyone can take away from this is that I didn't like the G08. That's the thing about subjectivity. It could be a very fine player but to my ears, it doesn't give anything a run for any money and would be a waste of rack space.

Im with Harry on this one PR, but that in itself reinforces the point that each to their own ears. My experience was in the context of a back to back home demo with a G08 vs CDX2. At that point i didnt own a single piece of Naim gear and was using chord amps but the difference to my ears was night and day in favour of the CDX2. If anything i wanted the G08 to be better because it looked much better with the silver chords! I had spent some time with a 588 which in my opinion is a better player than the G08.. again subjective, but im yet to hear an upsampling player that really does it for me...

Back to PR's point about disatisfied Naim customers.. For sure there is alot of typing about things not being quite right... but what does not quite right actually mean in context? I dont believe that not quite right is necessarily bad, but Naim customers do have the opportunity to chase their own version of perfection because of the carefully constructed upgrade path.. No doubt designed with commercial intention! But with say a CDX2 you can buy a very competant player, and yet when funds allow you can move to a much higher level without having to liquidate your investment... What happens when you outgrow the G08???
On the downside i do feel that its easy to fall into a naim trap... because there is always a next step filled with promises of nirvana, sometimes it means you cant enjoy what youve already got as much as you should!!! At least if you had the G08 then you would be stuck with it and have no other choice other than to listen to the music!!!
