Last sundaynight while we were sleeping upstairs someone decided to relieve us of some goods. So a brandnew Sony Bravia, three laptops, mobile phones, housekeys and wallets changed ownership and we didn’t hear a thing.
The good things is that they did not touch my Naim set at all. I don’t really care about the TV, the others things are annoying (so much information these days in your mobile phone instead of a real life adressbook) to be missed and two laptops were work related but my set is hard to replace (well, in Holland it is). Insurance still has to be figured out but we’re releived no damage was done and the material lost is replacable.
I am lucky to have an olive Naim set which isn’t flashy enough for those with a different moral standard of living.

Sorry to hear that, how horrible for you!
Perhaps your fine Naim equipment was too heavy for the scumbags?

Words cannot describe how I feel about people who perpetrate such acts. I'm glad your Naim gear went un-touched. They were obviously not into hi-fi and didn't realise it's value, probably as you say because Naim gear doesn't look flashy or particularly valuable. Hope all goes smoothly with the insurance.

I'm very sorry to hear this - I know what it feels like as it happened to me, albeit 15 years ago. The thieves took my TV, Video Recorder and CD player, but left my turntable, amps and speakers.

I hope your insurance company handles matters efficiently for you.

I have only contempt for those evil people who did this to you - I wish them all the worst.

I'm glad you and your family were not attacked and no damage was done to your property.

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate (disrespectful) problem. Whether it is olive, or not olive, flashy or not, this is still an unkind act by any nature. Karma comes in ways of good and bad, and I am sure positive wishes and good things will come to you in the future. As for your intruder, his/ her life will continue to follow a path less traveled by the common law biding citizen, and honest common man. They will have their day of sorrow because they are on a downward spiral.

Well, actually I only felt stupid for not locking it up better than we did. Same day I installed some additional locks.
Luckely I do not have a problem with the feeling that somebody has been in my house when we were sleeping. Though I know many do by the reactions I got telling this "adventure".

I feel for you. I was ripped off a few years ago. They took ALL of my CDs. Every last one. This was in the days before hard drives and backups so I had to go and buy them all again . I had no actual issues with the "violation of my home" other than the financial impact and the inconvenience, but like you, I found the reactions to my story were always something like: "Oh, just the thought that someone was in your personal space must be the worst thing!". I guess we're all just different eh. Good luck with the insurance. Sadly, you may need it (I had none, but that's my choice).

A "fair use" question - if my CDs are stolen now, do my Hard-drive copies become illegal? How do I prove that I ever owned the CDs?

Luckely my cd's are still there. Guess that's the advantage of this MP3 era where second hand cd's are worth hardly anything anymore.

You don't have to prove anything but that YOU did the copies. Personnal usage of copies is legal, sharing them with everyone on the globe isn't, unless specified otherwise in the copyrights statement.

Might be hi-jacking the thread, here...

But without being able to show the physical CDs, how do I prove I did copy them from my own legal discs? Or is it up to the RIAA (or whomever) to prove that I didn't (i.e. that I copied or downloaded someone else's discs or files). I guess I would have the police report about the theft to support my assertion.

As you say though, good news that no-one was hurt at Musfed's.

It pays to have proper insurance at such times! The feeling of being invaded is worse than the loss. Hang in there!

It was not this bastard who got stuck in the window of the place he was going into in Kent until the guy in the house next door took a pic left him there for an hour then phoned the police.

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. I too have been burglarized - just glad no harm came to your family (or mine in my case). Stuff is only stuff. But great they did not get your Naim set.

Glad to see that the burglars were just that, and the intrusion itself isn't affecting you.
The rest of the stuff is just things and hopefully the insurance will cover it. Make sure you don't lose out!
