It is recommended (arguably essential) that you use a minimum of 3.5m of NACA5 cable on the output of all Naim amps (the exception being the Nait 5i which is more tolerant)as they are designed to include this cable as part of the output load and can be unstable if cables with very different electrical characteristics are used. NACA5 is a relatively inexpensive cable so give some a try - it may cure your problem. You need to use a minimum of 3.5m with the optimum length said to be between 5m and 8m (people argue about this point though!).

Ferror, using incorrect speaker cables wil be detrimental to the sound of your Nait. There are plenty of Naca cables being offered second hand so getting hold of a pair shouldn't be difficult.

Thanks, I have bought a pair of naca5 this very day and the best thing, I didn't paid that much either. I report back when I get the cable. I am thinking of using Auld Lang Syne as a test-melody Regards ferror

Not using NACA5 will not necessarily be detrimental to the sound of your Nait, it depends on the speakers you're using.
That said, A5 is recommended for use with Naim amps and it'd be a good idea to try it if you're not happy with the way things sound at the moment.
If A5 doesn't fix it try something else - Chord Rumour, DNM-Reson and QED Silver Anniversary seem to work better than A5 with some speakers.

Hi!
Just replaced NAC A5 with DNM-Reson. For me there is no difference accept the problem with my NAC82 and the low volume is almost ok. Left and right channel stay "alive" longer at low levels.
Regards,
Adrian

I have had the naca5 connected, bought used, in my system for about 48 hours now. My system is transformed. The brightness is gone and the system sounds a lot more balanced and enjoyable. Much better bass too. I only used this flat regacable for three years so don't tell me I am stupid!

The Rega speaker cable is probably very good quality, its just that you didn't know that it doesn't suit Naim electronics. Julian

Interestingly enough, I still preferred NACA5 between my Nait 5i and my Spendor S5e speakers. While I also liked the Analysis Plus Oval 9, it was more expensive. The Chord Rumour 4 seemed to thin out the midrange too much. The results might have been different with another set of speakers. Even though the 5i is more tolerant of other cables, it still pays to compare a number of different options. All the best, Guth
