Don't panic, this smell is normal with Naim players. I love it. Sadly, it can wear off quickly, but my three-year old machine luckily still has a hint ...

Never noticed this with my '3'. I obviously haven't got a hot-rod version.
I wonder if the smell is emitted from the anti-light scatter material applied to the disc tray, as the electronics generate a bit of heat?

Whilst we're on the subject of the venerable '3' - mine has started to occasionally make a single click sound as the lid descends to about the half way closed point.
I'm not talking about the quiet click of the micro-switch just before the lid closes.
Anyone else?

Hmmm. I never noticed it before, but I just stuck my nose into the well of my CDS3 (4 mo. old) and sure enough, there is an odd smell. I guess standing in front of it to change CDs is too far to get the aroma.

Can we test to find out if only the smelly ones play CDR's?

Mine plays CDRs without problem, so the correlation is obvious!

Gents,
I will put myself through the traumas of the smelly CDS3 and run them in for you, returning them once the smell has gone. Can't say fairer than that, can we?
Form a queue, please...
Steve.
It's a grand old team to play for...

I've never noticed a smell from my CDS3. It just plays disks.... I put a disk on the platter, place puck, lower lid, and.... sit down on my sofa and listen. Are you obsessives listening with your noses against the CDS3, or summat? Rico - SM/Mullet Audio

The sulphurous odor is a residue of Lucifer, who Naim summoned to make the player sound so seductive.
