I've had SL2s on a home dem and believe that they sound as if they are worth £5k compared the sound to other speakers and therefore in that sense they are vfm. Maybe that's all that matters. However my concern over value stems from the fact that when you look at the physical material content (compared to other speakers including SBLs) you question why they need cost so much. Anyway as it sound that counts I'm sure many will ignore this aspect of value and buy 'em anyway, maybe me included.
I hope you are not asking what components in an SL2 cost £2,500 more than in an SBL.......
If the SL2 s had been priced at, say, £3000 i.e. SBL production costs plus a mark up for R&D and improved sound quality, I would be very interested in buying a pair to replace my SBLs. But at £5000 they are well out of my budget. Oh well, another lost sale.
I guess so, I am sure all those fancy curves add cost, my woodworking skills are not quite up to that but the sbl box I could just about knock together.
SL2 is very good, (once run in, which takes approx. 300 hrs!!!!) An NBL however it aint, and at nigh on £5k I would save up the other £2k and a bit(!) Recently heard active SBL vs Passive NBL on single 250 and the NBL walked it large style. Then tried active 250/NBL vs Pasive 300 on NBL. All I can say is oh my god. Sadly then went 500/NBL. Mucho dosh but mucho sublimo!! (making up my own language here but you get the idea!)
Must go, Need to rob a bank!!
