Hi

The first house my CD5i / Nait5i lived in needed two runs of 8m speaker cable (it's QED not Naim). In our new place one speaker now needs about 4m and the other is right next to the hi fi so there's about 7 m coiled up behind / under it.

There's also a lot going on back there - aerial cables, power leads, AV cables etc. Should I try to minimise these lengths (I know they need to be equal) or leave as is?

And if I'm to shorten how to I reattach banana plugs?

Thanks

Cut 1 x 8m run in half = 2 x 4m and refit banana plugs.
If they're the screw on type then you can DIY, if crimped or soldered you may need dealers help.
IIRC QED banana's are crimped on using a special tool, though this may have changed since.

regards
Busta

Now that's a good idea! I'd have cut them both but this way I'll be left with one 8m run I can sell...

The plugs are crimped on.

Watch out for cable directionality when cutting the 8m length in half. It's easy to get it wrong when folding the cable back on itself.

Your local dealer can likely do a cleaner job of it .... they have the right crimping tools as well.

Roger, why not take the opportunity and get some NACA5?

I installed NACA5 over Linn K400 speaker cables and the difference was sweet !!

I shudder when I remember how much the Linn cable cost me 15 years ago ...

Yes - I really think I should - do you think a dealer would loan me some ?

Hi guys

Here's an update.

Went to my local dealer on Sat and borrowed some NACA5. Then decided to embark on a big job to re-route and tidy all my cables etc, especially as one speaker cable ran under the stand of the other and had been punctured by its spike.

Then all the AV kit was dismantled, the furniture moved and the carpet up to route ('rowt') and re-route groves in the underlying parquet where trunking was laid to separate power, speaker, component leads etc.

Anyway, 7 hours later it's all back, hidden and wow - sounds much better. Just need to get the NACA5 now as the bass was tighter and the vocals clearer...

That's a pretty thorough job - although it seems a pity to damage the parquet. Is that why the foreman is waving his fist at you?! Big Grin

Would be good to see a picture of the finished item.

Here's the result - (including duster!)

Yes I know what you mean about the parquet - I love wood but HATE parquet flooring so it's a worthy sacrifice... it's not in keeping with the house and was damaged in other areas anyway.
