I think we should call the three styles as above...

I propose a motion that we include an intermediate 'non-chromolive' category for those transitional models such as the early NAIT2 with its non-chrome bumpered sleeve and its black face.

That would make it... chrome - nonchromolive - olive - black.

Would anyone care to second the motion?

In my view this name is good but too complicated. Let's think about a shorter name... Are there many models with that non-chromolive design?

how about this:

chrome - nonchromolive - nonblackolive and nonoliveblack

Sounds pretty good. Perhaps the first 'chrome' needs a little non-handle yet.

Nonremotechrome perhaps?

For purposes of clarity for relatively new Naim owner (1997 or 8) photos would be helpful. Can anyone help?

For me it's new, classic (olive), old (chrome bumper).

I've seen pics of older equipment but I just don't understand olive. They all look like black boxes except for those with the chrome bumpers. I happen to prefer series 5.

Naim call the new series "the Classic Range" as opposed to the Series 5 slim line black moderately new replacement for the old series 3 grey boxes.

This is getting way too confusing to me. Is the Nait 2 an olive? I like that look.

I know a young guy who 's interested and think he can afford something like a 62/72, don't know about power supply, 140? he like european sports cars so I've related that the old naim is like that. However, now he has to buy a new reliable car so doubt he's going to buy a stereo.

Remember, also, that the "nonchromeolive" designation really refers to boxes with two different flavours of green: brownish green and olive proper (from '97 onwards?). We therefore need to introduce "nonchromeremotelyolive". (Or was it "nonblackremotelyolive"?)

But suppose you had the nonchromeremote, but lost the remote. We need a new category for nonchromelostremote. But then you'd really need to clarify whether the remote was truely lost or merely temporarily absent in the depths of the sofa. So you'd have nonchromesofaremote.

Pre extruded bolted together chrome bumper
Chrome bumper grey knobs
(black edged, black knobs old front) (interim model? My friend has a 62 and 140 in this style)
Olive with green logo
black with 3 section fronted bit with glowy semi-circle logo

but chrome - olive - black is far simplier ;-)

Heard last night:

CDX2_XPS2
NAC552
NAP500
SL2

And it did sound good and looked good but I would not say (for me) it was worth over 30 grand.

It certainly wasn't worth £26000 more than my active SBL system. Yes it was better but I found my foot didn't tap like in my system... I was too busy thinking 'This was worth 30k!'

You and Naim both, I don't think any two of my eight fascias are the same shade. Range from brown to green.
