Having put in a seperate mains spur, better quality wall outlets etc, my attention was drawn to the Wiremold distribution block recommended by NANA. These blocks have a high quality look, being housed in a two piece aluminium extrusion. but my natural curiosity let me to dismembering the block to check out the internals.
Build quality internally is pretty good, but one thing looked like it could be improved. Firstly all the output sockets are wired in series, fed off the same 14 gauge wire. Rewiring all the sockets in parallel (including the earth connection) took around an hour and a few meters of 14 gauge wire. I removed a couple of the output sockets to make room for the connection where all the paralleled wires are joined, re-assembled the block and set to listen to any difference. The verdict: DO IT! My biggest surprise was the firming up of the bass, but overall most aspects of reproduction are improved with no drawbacks, except for the two lost outputs. My guess is that this is similar to the NAIM Hydra. If you don't mind messing with mains voltage wiring, I thouroughly recommend this very inexpensive tweak. Martin |
