I just bought a used Naim system consisting of SNAPS/NAC42/NAP110. I love it but I'm picking up a radio station. I can faintly hear it through my speakers. I don't know how this is possible since I do not have a tuner hooked up to it.

First of all, it's appreciated if you use your real name on the board, rather than a cutesy webface.
Regarding Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), there are a number of possible causes. First make sure that the cables are firmly connected, as RFI problems in Naim gear are often caused by problems in the connectors (soldering, dirt, etc.) Second, try to prevent long, straight cable segments between your 42 and SNAPS, and the SNAPS and 110. You might want to try loosely coiling the cables (not a perfect coil, as that causes other problems). Also, you can experiment with cable positioning in general. When I first got my used 32.5 and 110, I also had RFI problems. These were mostly solved by the above suggestions. However, I eventually sent them to Naim for a basic maintenance, and when they returned the RFI problems were completely gone. Apparently they cleaned up the connections, etc., which is why I encourage you to do this. It's a good idea with used Naim gear regardless, since re-capping is eventually needed with older gear. Catch you later! -=> Mike Hanson <=- Smilies do not a forum make. [This message was edited by Mike Hanson on MONDAY 23 October 2000 at 03:09.] |
