My brother just pruchased a naim 5 series system as follows: cd5/112/150/ linn ninkas. He tells me that to listen with fairly decent volume he needs to turn the 112 volume knob to about 3 o`clock. Since I have read that you can equalize the input levels so that cd and tuner and phono can have similar volume levels, I was wondering of there is a way to increase the output of the cd input on the cd5? Which is another way of asking how one can equalize the various input volumes. His room is average size. On my 82/250 at 9:30 o`clock, I get very loud music. Why should there be such a big difference? I also use Linn speakers and my room is extremely large. Thanks, in advance. David

There was critisizm against Naim pre's about the fact that the inputs are too sensitive and this makes the volume knob sensitive - that's why we set the volume knob on a low position and hearing quite loud especially with cd's.

I would like the idea that to hear loud I have to set the knob to the 3 o'clock, my volume has no meaning higher than the hour 12 and this is only because of the TT. A slight move at the volume in my 72 (and the same was with the Nait3 ) causes a huge different in volume, sometimes it makes you correct the volume several times till you have the desired position.

I think (as I understand what Naim say about the "5"), that the pre has a feature in it that equals the level of the inputs volume

The NAC112 / NAIT5 allow you to adjust the level of each input independantly, by putting the pre-amp into 'Program' mode then adjusting the level of each input by ear.

It's very simple and works well.
