Hi Gents,

I would have a question about NAC 252 preamp
functionality:

After restoring programmable setting to the
factory default the following buttons are
selected automatically on mine:

CD on the upper array of buttons
MUTE and CD on the lower one

Is that normal ?

Cheers,

Yes

It was well known to old 52 users that muting the record out bank of inputs (bottom row)improved the sound quality. Naim have now incorporated this into the software

I was originally advised to select 'mute' and 'aux' on the bottom buttons of my 52 (and previous 82). Does it matter which button you mute, or is it best to match it to the source being played?

Cheers

I heard somewhere it was the other way round and you should mute a different output from the input(s) you are using. Since I don't have anything on my tape input on my 252 I keep the record out on that with mute enabled.

I checked the Naim documents yesterday evening.

I can only see a statement for the 202 in this respect.

Maybe Naim could enlighten us about what the best thing to do is

I'm pretty sure the results of some extensive research, experimentation, soul searching and considerable therapy on the forum, a few years ago, concluded that on the record bank 'Mute' and 'Aux' selected together gave the best sound.

Hope that helps

Andy, J.N.

Would that be Aux 1 or Aux 2 on the record bank or does'nt it matter. I use Aux2 for the turntable.

I was playing around with the mute facility, in order to achieve the ultimate in sound quality, and now I can't hear anything?

What's with that!
