Hi Guys
My new DVD player (Pioneer DV525) always insists on turning the subtitles on when I load my Pulp Fiction disc. Doesn't seem to do it with any others. It doesn't bother me, I just wondered if anyone knew why? The previous player I had wouldn't play this disc at all without making the picture really jerky. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance!! Lewis,
I own a Toshiba DVD player and it informs the viewer of subtitles by showing a little icon on the screen, not that I've seen it in action yet. Can you turn the subtitle alert off? Just re-reading your post though, I think something might be wrong with disc actually since you said it wouldn't play properly in your old unit. Maybe it needs a cleaning? Hope that helps a bit. |

Its probably the default setting and if it is then disable using the on screen menu commands.Different DVD,s differ in what is default and what isn,t.I hate the dam things as they are so fiddly and you can,t fast forward. An improvement on Laser disc?I don,t thinkso.Remember not ALL DVD discs will play. There are currently about 60 players that won,t play certain discs. The Matrix film is the one that usually buggers up most players. If in doubt import a Pioneer DV 37 with progressive scanning (a bit like having a line doubler).Never found a disc that didn,t play on this machine, check out Pioneer Elite DV 05 / DV 09.
Hope this helps hooch |

quote: Looks like I lucked out - scored a Pioneer DV636 on impulse a few weeks back, just for the purpose of watching The Matrix that afternoon.... worked ok, no probs. I've been meaning to try it on some Mana just to see if it does in fact whip my CDX Rico - not too serious about AV |

Thanks for the help guys, I finally found the setting that was mucking everything up!
This player has played everything so far, the Matrix works OK. I think I'll hang onto this player until I can buy a recordable DVD unit. There's been scuttle butt here about Naim producing a DVD player, but I don't know if they meant a recordable model. I don't know how interested companies like Naim will get in the DVD arena, as it seems very fickle. Thanks again! **** |

Why buy a recordable DVD (apart from making illegal film copies)? What do you guys think about TiVo?

What is the story with TiVo? Is this on-demand tv? What's the delivery medium (sat/cable/terrestrial broadcast - analog/digital), is it pricey, can the wife watch Eastenders Omnibus on it?
The TV ads really amount to teasers. Info, anyone? And is this a similar product to the one they were advertising on the radio with the "hey, you stuck in the traffic - you're missing tele.."and the "neeeeeaaaawwwwwwww" sound [yesh dead effective those - i can't remember the product name!]??? Confused of north london. Rico - musichead |
