Just back from the Hifi show at dalmahoy .

Naim were represented by a local dealer I think

It looked like the big cheese cdp 555 with all the other top of the line stuff with some totem speakers totem wind I believe

Room was busy so i didnt get a lot of time there but it sounded incredible

However if i whisper quite quietly the new quad 2905 speakers were unbelievable

i wonder what the would sound like in the naim room

a boy can dream

Cough! The 555/552/500 were straight out of the boxes on Friday and the room was empty on Sat. Sound was not optimum(Winker) so there must have been a overnight miracle if room was packed and kit sounding good on Sunday!

I was glad to get home to a burnt in 552/500!

Just been to the Scottish High end show. The Naim room was deserted and why you may ask?

Loud and Clear had the 555,552,500 playing. It sounded SOOOOOOO BAD.

They had Totem speakers on the end and I have never heard such a crap sounding system. It was worse than the CD5i, CD5 Arriva at the last show.

People did not hang around long. I politely asked if it had been run in. No was the answer. Arrived yesterday straight from the factory. Well that was clear.

Ostentatious masochism - the only explanation.

I was also at the show an spent a fair bit of time in the Naim room. The sound was good, definitely more information on offer than in my system at home. Whether it was £30K better I fortunately don't have to decide - nor would I at a show. The room was pretty full much of the time (I kept popping back to try and find a quieter time when Mark would play some of my CDs (Ta!).

Two years ago at the same venue the Naim room was setup with a variety of electronics and Arriva's and it was frankly painful to listen to (and empty IIRC) - their AV room sounded better than the 2 channel room !

Another highlight for me were the new 6K Revolver speakers fed by Denson kit.

The Macintosh room held my attention for about three mins while I figured out what all the illuminated dials were for and then I left ..ZZZedzville.

The AudioNote room was tiny and cramped, but were one of the few rooms playing a lot of vinyl (Loud & Clear's own room was the other). On the basis of what I heard they were worth another listen.

As usual most rooms were playing stuff too loud. I was driven out of the Arcam/Proac room by this.

The door-size Quad electrostatics are a delight on the right kid of music, but were not so happy when things got to complex. But you need to buy a castle to go with them !

The show was smaller than in previous years with the focus on 2-channel ( only 2 AV rooms I think). However I thought is was better for that.

So overall I go to shows with limited expectations but this one was better than many I've been to.

Hi there,

Well probably a short post from me:

Naim were there, had a nice chat with Mark, good to meet up with him again.

Rest of show was pretty dull, so left. Preferred the one in Glasgow last year. It may have had more AV, but was good in that it had a range of equipment and manufacturers.

Ta da,

Roy.
