I decided i'm buying a Nait 3 (got a pretty good deal). I have some questions regarding this little excellent amp:

Where can I find (not very expensive) cables to connect the amp to a normal RCA cd player?

Can you connect a second power amp to bi-amp a pair of speakers? (still using the Naits preamp)?

How true is it that I should refrain from using non Naim speaker wire?

Thanks in advance,

Seb

Most people recommend the Chord Company, the entry level interconnects are very good, and sensibly priced.

You could connect a second power amp (NAP90 is the matching amp, and is what is inside the Nait), but you need and external PSU (Flat-cap, Hi-cap) to do this, and the pre / power sections need splitting and connectors adding to the PCB's inside (This is a Naim-approved mod that your dealer can perform).

Naim though, would not agree that there was any benefit to bi-amping, without going active.

Short answer - very!

Long answer is that the speaker cable is designed as part of the output circuit of the amplifier, in order to provide optimum performance and stability, use of non-approved speaker cable can cause instability and possible damage, and will invalidate warranties (as can bi-wiring).

Naim speaker cable is not too expensive and is worth every penny - the difference is clearly audible.

In my recent experience, even with an amp as good as the NAP250, mono-amping with a pair of NAP135s (for the same money) absolutely blitzes a pair of biamped 250s. If you need more power, get a bigger amp and save the daisy-chaining of multiple power amps for the round-earth crowd.

Seriously though, for the price of a nait3/*cap/nap90 you sould get pretty damn close to a 72/140 combo, which would make better (and louder - if that's important) music. I'd suggest you suck it and see first with your nait. The path to upgrading along the Naim hierarchy is fairly narrowly defined within certain guidelines. It's be useful to consult with your dealer for advice.
