The quality of their transformers is arguably even better than in the H&F days.

That may be the truth but we are many who likes the H&F sound better..
In some cases there are high differences

Well, my Nait-2 arrived today and looks stunning!

Anyway after listening to it for a while with the Kytes, I feel that I'm missing a little bass. It seems that the Kytes are not for me....

What other bookshelf speakers do you guys recommend? I'll try to get a listen to your recommendations.

It depends on you budget Vic, but I've had good results with the following speakers on the end of a Nait-2:

- Linn Kan (mk-1 or -2)

- Diapason Micra (Italian beauties, still new available, lovely combo!)

- AudioNote AX Two. (wonderful open/transparent and detailed speaker, very easy to drive)

Currently I'm using N-Sats. A great combination with any Nait, but I wonder if they'd bring out more bass than your current Kytes. (I'm not familiar with Kytes but I've read before that they're a little bass-light)

regards,
Alco

Fired up my Nait 2 for the first time at the weekend which was serviced 3 months ago and has sat in the box since as i've been out of the country. Put it in place of my 282/Hicap2/200 driving my Shahinian Arc's and fed by my CDS3/555PS. So how does it sound? well pretty amazing really, even though i'm sure it's still burning in after the service it is really starting to swing. Lacks the absolute resolution of the 282/200 but none of its musicality. One thing i have noticed is that the music is slightly 'faster' on the Nait which i attribute to possibly having less poise than the separates, however on some music it's perhaps more fun although maybe not as accurate.

No complaints really and the Arc's are not stressing it too much, given a top quality source the Nait 2 can really hold its own, as long as the room is not huge and the speakers sympathetic.

Gary.

well well, luck was on my side this weekend! Smile

Guess what's now playing music as if its life depends on it ?! U got it. Cool

(yeah, I know...the case is reversed. I prefer it that way. I like to refer to it as CB 'Classic Black' Razz

How I got the amp ? Well, about 3 months ago I stumbled over an ad for a CB Nait-2.
I put out a bid, but the seller removed the ad within a few few days and decided to keep the amp.

Then suddenly, recently I got an unexpected email:"Are your still interested in the CB Nait-2 ?",
followed by a phonecall yesterday "if it was ok to drop by and deliver the Nait." Smile

So, right now I'm the happy owner of a mint CB Nait-2.

Ok, so here they are: "the usual suspects", all 3 in line. Big Grin (the Olive Nait-2 will be sold)

Alco

Hi Alco

What I want to know is...

Do you really think these amps are *better* than the 5i you had/have?

And if so, why??

Cheers

Hi Tom,

I haven't compared the Nait-1 and CB Nait-2 side by side yet. My Nait-1 has been recapped last year, so it's probably not a fair comparison.

Hi ME,

Yes, to me the Nait-1 and... my 'new' unserviced CB Nait-2 do sound better than my Nait-5i.
(I wish I could say ther don't)

It's a bit strange to me though, as I went from an Olive Nait-2 to the Nait-5i and thought it was a worthy improvement.

The CB Nait's sound slightly more natural to me, and they're more involving.
Also the Nait-5i projects voices and instruments more all in one line, whereas the CB Nait's present the voice more in front of the band/soundstage. They have a bit more depth to the soundstage.

regards,
Alco

Cheers Alco

I kind of agree with you. The earlier Naits have an explicit, direct character that maybe the 5i lacks. The problem I have with the 'shoeboxes' is the lack of control, grip or whatever you want to call it when driving the system hard. I find the 5i does a very decent job in this respect.

I read a thread here recently which suggested the 5i was superior to the Supernait though. Winker

Regardless, enjoy whichever Nait(s) you decide to keep. They are a genuine classic.

A very nice system can be built around a turntable and Nait but, once you improve the cartridge (to mc) the useful input becomes redundant.

I regret selling my Nait 2 more than the 5i... Err..preferred the 5i if that makes sense

Hi Darthvader,

It wasn't so much the dust that was hard to remove. It was more tricky to get rid of all those paraffine parts that were left and got stuck in between components on the board.
This is how I did it:

1. Very carefully and with lots of patience I first removed all the wax parts with a toothpick.

2. Then I gently but thorougly wiped all the loose parts out with a small paint-brush.

3. Last but not least, I used a small bit of Servisol foam-cleaner applied on a clean, soft cloth, to get rid of the last bits of grease and dust, and to make it look shiney and new again.

That's about it. Cool

I'm sorry Avhed, but I don't know what kind of wood is used. It's a beautiful wood though and completely solid.
I think Diapason only use solid wood, so no veneered MDF.

Not as beautiful as my 'new' mint CB Nait-2 though! Cool (Here's my attempt to take a "Kuma-shot" Big Grin )

Thanx Ian,
Well, it's the first picture I place on this forum taken with my new digital camera.

Sony DSC W120, 7,2 mp. Nothing too fancy, but more than good enough for me.
