Nice to hear your new CB Nait-2 has made the trip overseas and is now singing beautifully!
Last week I noticed that the German HiFi-store, as mentioned by me above, is now also selling this mint CB Nait-2. For a brief moment I got tempted but the price is ridiculously high imho. € 650,- for a 20 year old amp! I bought my first (CB) Nait-2 in 1998 from a former Naim-dealer, for € 450,- |

Hi Daddycool
The gain seemed about right to me if I remember correctly.(it was a few years back) Volume was a lot less touchy than when using CD as a source, and that's a good thing.. I am awaiting an LP12 with a new 10x5 right now,so I can refresh my memory. Nice place by the way! Sandy |

This evening I have just plugged my freshly minted olive Nait 2 into my main system for a work-out. Barely two weeks have elapsed since handing the amp to my dealer to send off to Naim and getting it back last night! That's an astonishingly speedy turn-around time, IME!
I've got the CDS3 running through it right now - managed to plug the HiLine into the Tuner socket on the Nait. It drives my Allaes with aplomb and I have to say, it's sounding rather wonderful right now! Bravo to the boys at Naim for all their efforts and also to my dealer Mr James @ Tomtom for an excellent all-round service. |

Dear Jon,
These old pieces still have a lot of mileage in them. I would never have thought I would end up with my particular set of antiques, but there is no doubt that I would "max out" source components before altering anything about the amps or speakers as things stand now. Those old Naim amps have a really fine set of priorities. Maybe not always terribly "hifi-ish" but certainly engaging in a maddeningly indefinable way we fudge by calling "musical," because it is so fine we cannot really explain it! George |

I couldn't agree more, George.
JonR have fun with your freshly serviced Nait 2! Give it some weeks to give it its best, it goes back and forth at first. rgds, daddycool |

Unfortunately, regulary serviced amps never sound exactly the same like before, but it is a great thing that guys from Naim offer top notch service to bring some more life in our old black boxes.

Unfortunately? My Nait 2 now sounds even better than when it was brand new, especialy in the speed dept. Mine was done with the genuine spare parts kit from Naim and by the best Naim certified tech earth ever carried (thanks for that 20$, Manu Bye. |

Hi Alco,
Does your Nait 2 also have a Holden & Fisher transformer? I have like you a Nait 1, I wonder if a Nait 2 sounds better. Could you advise? On the Naim forum most people prefer the Nait 2 over the original one. Your unit is not by chance the one dadycool is currently offering? Serialno of that unit is 74607? Thanks in advance, Groeten, Herman |

Hi Herman, My Olive Nait-2 seems to have the same trafo as the Holden & Fisher, but it carries an orange sticker with 'Made for Nait-2' or so on it. (instead of the more common black/white H&F brand sticker) At the moment I have hardly used my Nait-2 to be honest. I have done some comparison between my (recapped in 2007) Nait-1 and Nait-5i, and I (slightly) prefer the presentation of the Nait-1.
No, it's Daddycool's previous Nait-2. His current Nait-2 is still for sale! Groeten, Alco |

Agreed. Crazy expensive. Try placing a wanted ad at audiogon - I've picked up two CB Nait 2's this way in the past year (gave them to my kids). The price was about half of what the German HiFi store is quoting. |

Herman,
I just removed the case from my Nait-2. I have to correct my earlier reply. The trafo has an orange sticker on it, with 'Naim Audio - Nait-2' on it. (instead of what I thought said 'made for Naim or Nait-2' Underneath that it says: Nuvotem, Donegal Ireland. (seems like I have a part Irish Nait. Kind of a collectors-item eh ?! It has the same size and looks as the H&F though, and the little amp sounds like I remember my previous Nait-2. Has anyone else ever seen these PSU inside a shoebox Nait ? (it also has 47/92 on the sticker, of which 92 is obviously the year of build) |

Hi Alco I had a late Nait II cd which had the Novotem trafo. Not sure there was a huge diff. down to earlier Holden & Fisher Naits. IMO some higher specs Naim did have substantially higher differences, the H&F olive hicap and Nap 140 was clearly preferred by me vs later types. |

I just bought a used Nait-2 here in the US and I'm just waiting to receive it by mail.
I'll post pictures of it as soon as I can. BTW, has anyone tried Rega Kytes with a Nait-2? How it sounds? I've got a pair of Kytes and I'm wondering... |

To all you shoebox-size Nait owners:
My recent purchase (CB Nait 2 from the UK, serviced by Class A) has channel imbalance on the volume pot. Quite a lot at the lowest volume late at night (balance knob to 3 o' clock). Turn up the volume a notch and it's gone. Still a bit annoying, ok with vinyl but more with tuner. My first Olive Nait 2, the one Alco has now, also has channel imbalance, less so but longer along the volume increase. My second Olive Nait 2 (purchased from Robbert, serviced by Latham) has no channel imbalance at all. How about yours? Is there a cure? (e.i. has anyone/Naim sourced an alternative pot?) |

Hi Daddycool
No problems here as I no longer have my CD5 (Source now SB3/TT and Tivoli) but when I did have I got rid of the imbalance problem. Trust you are enjoying the CB and the answer to your problems is here. Regards Neil |

Hi Neil, With 'Peanut Butter and Jelly DIN - DIN lead' you mean one of those dirt-cheap, black interconnects ? (like this: ) I have one of those lying around somewhere in a closet, but never tried it on my current Nait-2 and Nait-1. Hmm, I think I'll give it a try. regards, Alco |

No Alco not a cheap one!
Read the beginning of the thread. The PBJ is attenuated at -16dB. That then eliminates any channel imbalance. Plus Russ Andrews offer 60 day money back. No brainer so give it a go. Regards Neil |

Nait 2 and Rega Kytes are a great combo! Had that with a Rega P25 in my bedroon for awhile. No bass, but great in the mids! Sandy |

Regarding the transformers in a Nait1 & 2 Richard Dane wrote to me; the transformer was the same. Holden and Fisher were our transformer supplier until they closed in 1993. Our current supplier is Nuvotem, who bought H&F . The quality of their transformers is arguably even better than in the H&F days.

Thanks for sharing the info Herman. Interesting!
My Nait-2 was made in 1992. |
