Hello. 12 years, 3 kids, and many student loan payments later, I am finally able to get back into the Hi-Fi biz--albeit with baby steps. Back in my younger days I had a Linn Axis/Kan/Naim combination. Now I use an Arcam 8/Acoustic Energy speakers(AE 3)and am currently auditioning a Linn Majik. Seems very nice. But as I said, long ago I used the Nait and loved it. So now I am wondering if I should go back and get the Nait 5. Does anyone have any experience/comparisons with these two amps. I know I have to do my own comparison but would love to hear other's opinions on this subject.

Thanks for your help.

Steve

The new 5 is really excellent. Don't make any choices until you hear it.

6 - 7 years ago the Nait 3 was a better amp than the Magik.

I heard that linn improved the Magik and it is a better amp now - but the Nait5 is also a better amp than the Nait3 - so my GUESS is that the Nait 5 is superior to the Magik.

the Cd5 and Nait5 is a great combo to the ears,
we are lucky we don't listen with our eyes...

Steve,

I advised you to have a listen to the nait5 also.
I have hear the majik 4 years ago and I did not like it... morover, I am pretty sur it uses Philips power modules for the amplification part, that is not a Linn design; I think the naim nait is a more "homemade" design, benefiting from the long term naim experience...

I noticed that on a recent picture of a Classik - I guess they've been used for space reasons, and they may be custom manufactured for Linn (?), but it seems like a less than ideal solution, and just another indication of the way Linn are heading.

I know which amp will have had more of the manufacturer's design engineering input to it's audio circuitry, and that's the one I'd choose, providing my ears agreed with my brain.

Steve,

I haven't done the majik vs the nait5, but i have done majik vs nait3 and, to my ears, there was no real contest. The Naim was sooo much better, and that was with Linn Speakers! My guess is that if you liked the nait1, then you'll probably like the nait5. But as is so often said, get thee to a dealer & do the comaprison yourself if you really want to be sure.

Happy hunting,

Will.
