I haven't compared any versions, but spanish legend Narciso Yepes has recorded the work several times with different orchestras.
If you choose the Spanish Philharmonic Orchestra, you'll also have the Fantasia para un gentilhombre as well as the Guitar Concerto by Salvador Bacarisse. The latter sounds like a film music for a '50s Don Quijote but it's pleasant. Maybe it can be ordered in your country, Forlane UCD 10901 I believe Pepe Romero on Philips has done a good job too. By the way I recently saw Paco De Lucia himself playing the Concierto de Aranjuez on TV, it was unusual to see him in this kind of repertoire but he was equally stunning, this time in terms of artistic sobriety. What a musician ! |

Rodrigo
I've got this on a Sony Classical cd (SK 37848) performed by John Williams. Excellent recording, excellent music. Cheers, Steve |

I bought Julian Bream's recording with COE/Gardiner on the back of recommendations in Penguin and Rough Guide (mid-price RCA 09026 61611). Very good it is too.

Totally agree re Miles Davis/Gil Evans, but it's not what Rodrigo wrote.
My point was that I haven't heard all the available versions of the original. And I don't suppose that many who subscribe to this BB have done so either. But, of those who have heard them all, both Penguin and Rough Guide think that Bream's performance is the best. From my perspective, it's a beautiful, almost improvisatory, performance. G |

I have it on a Naxos disc. Famous Adagios
Cant remember the people involved, and my cd's are all in storage, so I can't check. It's a superb version though. It's choc full of other beautiful pieces too. "Hi-fi is ok, but its nothing like the real thing..." |
