Capitol in the States are releasing four US Beatles albums on CD for the first time.

The albums are:

Meet The Beatles
The Beatles' Second Album
Something New
Beatles 66

Release date is 16th November. Presented in mono and stereo. No idea what the sound quality will be like but it looks like a nice collectable for those that way inclined.

Kevin (Aubrey Manning on BBC Radio 4)

Compiled using custom tube playback equipment from the original stereo and mono analog master tapes, many of the songs here are presented for the very first time on CD in True Stereo!

I snipped this from the home page. I guess that means it NOT the 1980:s EMI digital transfers, instead it's newly done ones. Better? Worse?

A friend of mine recently got to visit the Capitol Records building in Hollywood, with a friend (of his) who worked there (as an archivist). The Capitol employee-friend said "I've got a treat for you" and took him into a playback studio next to the tape vault, threaded a 1/2-inch tape onto a 2-track, pressed "play". Out the big speakers came side 1 of Meet The Beatles in stereo at high volume. My friend testified that the experience was God-like, and utterly destroys the mono CDs we've come to know from EMI. Apparently the tapes are in pristine condition, no hiss was audible at all between tracks, and no splicing leader was visible either.

We may be in for a treat...

This looks like a must have although it does present a dilemma - go for the US version direct or via Amazon or the home grown version which Amazon are already offering alongside the import? Both released 15/16 November.

Also if this is a limited edition, how many in US, how many in the UK?

I think some research is required and hopefully things will become clearer nearer to release date

If there's a remastering of Beatles albums, somehow I don't think it's going to be Limited for very long - do you? I'd wait & take your time....

...Which I suspect they'll sound like. Hopefully there'll be new vinyl pressings for my turntable-owning brethren.
