 'Martin Mull and His Fabulous Furniture in Your Living Room' Yes folks, it was the 70's, the great time for rock and roll, soul and disco of all types... and what was I listening to but this piece of ungodly cheezy dreck. It had everything , stale offbeat humor, in jokes that no one would want to decifer, schmoozing violins, cheap synths and everything else to make it sooo un-hip, it was hip...sort of. We all have those albums tucked away in a basement somewhere, not even on our deathbed would we admit to owning them... |

In future years, I believe that Fantastic, the debut album by Wham!, will be viewed as a classic. Real depth and beauty are to be found here.
For now though, it's just a very embarrassing record I once bought. Unluckily for me though, I can't play it, as just about all my 'classic' albums are at my brother's these days. |

yeah, my uncle would come over and my brother and i would be treated to rolf harris. steve and i must be similar in age, as i couldn't have been older than 8. my uncle would sing along w/ "tie me kangaroo down" and laugh while he drank his beer. the scary thing is he's still alive, 85 now.
same age, i also recall listening what seemed like 100's of times to the soundtrack to "el cid" (sophia loren, charlton heston), running around the living room w/ a plastic lance. now there's a collector's item. what can you do? my mom played a lot of opera 78s ... she's still here, too, 87. we should find those lp's .... |

Yeah Rolf and Val too (Delaney's Donkey and O'Rafferty's Motor Car - makes you want to Walk Tall) - those were the days, my friend - we though they'd never end.

Happy Together - The Turtles
I love this record. One of the only memories of my father was in his car when I was little, driving to Brighton - and I still remember the road we were on. This record was playing on the radio at the time and I still associate it with this particular memory. I must have appreciated the irony even at the age of 7. |

Happy Together is a classic - a great song. I have several Turtles' elpees and they are first class (Battle of the Bands is my favourite - must write it up the Great Albums thread). The Turtles (Volman, Kayland and Pons) created great songs with humour and all in the best possible taste. I don't agree that Happy Together was a lousey record. but completely agree that we all love it anyway (or at least we should do).  |
