Bought some CDs on Saturday and had a lovely time listening to them throughout the weekend.

Reveal - REM is a really good album. There are some wonderful tracks and Michael Stipes voice is sounding better than ever.

Anhomie and Bonhomie - Scritti Politti is fab as well. Only bought it really because it's been re-released as a very cheap CD (£3.99) but I'd pay full price for it. Lush bass and fretless bass, bit of hip-hop, vocals which remind me of a mixture of The Beach Boys and The Beatles, great tunes.

Onka's Big Moka - Toploader is also a great album. If you like the singles they've released so far you'll like the whole album.

Heaven is a place on Earth - Belinda Carlisle. All the (IMHO) classics. Perfect if you like the odd bit of 80's pop. See how honest I am with you?

This is Jill Scott. Will have to play this more, not too sure yet, as is the case with
Asleep in the Back - Elbow.

Jusat have to say that my hi-fi played them all brilliantly.

Anna,

I second the REM recommendation, I love most of their early stuff, but it went downhill for me with 'Monster'.

New album's much better, and it's been spinning a lot (with the exception of the vinyl-fest I had this weekend).

On the golden oldie front, I bought Prefab Sprout's 'Steve Mc Queen' recently, and it's awesome. Classic 80's intelligent pop, and superb production from Thomas Dolby. It's available as a cheap 2 CD set with 'From Langley Park to Memphis' and there's not a bad song on either album.

As a taster the best of collection 'A Life of Surprises' is superb. Takes me back to my youth, talking of which...

... my turn for honesty - I was listening and thoroughly enjoying Iron Maiden's 'Piece of mind' last night, it almost makes me want to grow my hair long and become a headbanger again.

Andy - creeping away - embarassed wink

I picked up:
  • Little Feat - Sailin' Shoes (Uk vinyl)
  • Genesis - 'The Lamb lies down on Broadway' (french vinyl)
  • Led Zeppelin - Presence (German vinyl)
  • The Who - Who's Next (French vinyl)
  • Buck Owens - and his Buckeroos - The Carnegie Hall Concert (Dutch vinyl)

I had fun going through this weekends acquisitions, with what came via internet buys I actually had more than the above list. I just would like to emphasis how great Little Feat were, Sailin' Shoes really put a big grin on my face big grin.

The other disc that lit up my face was the Buck Owens. A friend of mine said that he forgave me for liking Dwight Yoakam, beacause I hadn't heard Buck Owens, well now I have and there's no going back wink
