Apparently he’ll be indulging in a bit of air guitar to a track cut by Ritchie Blackmore

Wow - that sounds ideal

It's a new version of Whole Lotta Love - shame about the singer.

In every sense! Jimmy looked as if he was about to melt! It must have been bloody hot up there. If he was miming his timing was exquisite!

That was a helluva closing show.

Well, like hom or loathe him, or even, like me, be totaly apathetic about him, he is a true global brand. Probably the most recognisable face seen in all 16 days of the Olympics!

If Leona and Jimmy were doing it live then it was to a backing track obviously. Either way your average Beijing citizen hadn't seen the like of it before!

True enough. And I wonder who will be the chosen few in 2012?

I'm getting old or perhaps it was my TV, but I thought our bit was pretty average - at least Boris didn't drop the flag - I was expecting a thunderous opening chord by Mr Page, but it didn't happen, it seem almost anaemic - and why no stairway - was Jimmy denied. I don't think the acoustics did him justice and sorry I didn't like the singer (would have preferred Bob Plant).

I liked the excellent show, but was disappointed by Page/Lewis, perhaps my expectations were too high because whenever I see it is Great Britain, I think gold medal performance imminent. What was that animation and bus all about and please lose the dancers.

Still I understand for 2012, Sir Richard Digance is doing the song in the opening ceremony so I'm booking my tickets Smile

Yes, this was exactly the opposite of a Welsh home rugby match. There you want plenty of ambient mic in the stadium for the sound of the crowd singing 'Land of my Fathers' (one of the great sounds of the world, and so says an Englishman) but it all goes onto some out of tune wobbly warbling diva. In the Bird's Nest the tv's mic seemed to be all in the stadium, and none directly from the musicians, so all it did was pick-up the incoherent sound of the stadium pa.

For the London 'slot', I thought Boris did us proud with his jacket undone and looking like he'd just been dragged through a hedge backwards (wasn't something this big worth a special visit to the tailor?). We had a London bus, a zebra crossing and a couple of guardsmen from the ministry of funny walks, but where was the Austin Powers dance routine? Frown Yeah, baby.

I've changed my mind!
With Boris in the costume, this promises the ultimate entertainment for 2012.
