Thanks to auntie Rasher - I am reminded of what a great band SAHB were - saw them back in 74 or 75 (hazy) and again a year later (75 or 76!) and again a couple of years later without Alex. I then went to see Alex with his new band (in Tolworth if I remember correctly) only for it to have been cancelled - I found out the next day he'd died - sad loss - great entertainer.
Anyone else have any memories of him/them? |

quote:That's a bloody good question. I saw SAHB round about the time of Next, but don't know exactly when. Can't remember where either! Great live act though. The double album re-release of "Framed" and "Next" has been tempting me for a while - anyone know what the quality's like? nick.lees at btinternet.com |

If the double CD is anything like the standard CD release of Next and Framed it might be best avoided. Bloody awful compared to the vinyl.
I loved SAHB. Fondest memory is of the lights going down at the local ABC back in 72-(3?)and a menacing voice growling " Guid Evening Bhoys and Gurlsss - my name is AlexSSSSSSS." What an unbelievable show. Rock Theatre at its finest. Vambo Still Rools P |

Bah. I'm sure there was a very good reason why, at the time, I only got the singles and not the albums. Can't think of anything even vaguely rational though. Ta P.

OK.
Nick I just checked Amazon and I think you should buy both the Framed/Next and the Tomorrow Belongs / Impossible Dream double set then report back. I never got into the latter albums until quite recently but was pretty much blown away by how well they stood up. There's some seriously good stuff going on there. Almost avant bloody garde at times.. Those double sets look pretty much indispensable if you've not got the original first pressings on vinyl So. Go on Go on! P |

Strangely enough I've just ordered the impossible dream/tomorrow belongs to me double CD as my vinyl copy of the former is a bit dodgy - quite looking forward to its receipt....
If it's any good I may get the framed/next CD (despite having them on vinyl too!) 'There's a hole in her stocking and she keeps on rocking' |

quote: Yep, it's fine. I got a copy a few months ago and I'm pleased to be able to report that Faith Healer is as good as it ever was. If you check around you can get it for next to nothing... Dave |

Yep just received the CD - good sleeve notes - check out the flares if you can!
Looking forward to giving it a listen. Zal Cleminson was a pretty nifty guitar player eh! Blimey I'm regressing.... |

Well, this weekend I've had a damn good thrash with both Next and Framed. Brought back great memories as well as still being thoroughly enjoyable in their own right (though There's No Lights On The Christmas Tree Mother, They're Burning Big Louie Tonight is probably still best remembered as a damn fine Charades title).

Does the CD have a lot of hiss? The one I got does - which I guess is to be expected seeing as it was originally recorded 30 years ago..... |

Which album was it that had that gem of a little track at the end of one side that went:
"I knew we had to say goodbye when I felt that warmth against my thigh... Hey! I that you pissing down my leg?" (Because I now realise that I've wanted that one for about 23 years) |

AAAAGGGHHH!
I can't remember - I think it may have been one of the first two albums. Hopefully someone else can answer?... I'll check out the first two albums tonight if I remember though. |

In the early '60s I managed a blues group in Edinburgh. We were booked to play at The Place in Victoria Street on the same bill as Alex Harvey's Big Soul Band. As there was insufficient room on the stage for two sets of amps, the owner told Alex to allow us to use his gear to which he agreed. When the time came for my group to play their set, they found that Alex had sabotaged the amps and left us to play through two little Watkins 15 watt jobs - what a bastard, but what a musician! A sad loss to rock and blues. BTW, Les his brother played for Stone The Crows along with Maggie Bell. He was also a great talent, but tragically was electrocuted whilst on stage.

I had no idea that Les Harvey & Alex Harvey were brothers! Is that really true?

Les was indeed Alex Harvey's brother. I believe he started in a group called The Kinning Park Ramblers. At one time he played for The Pirates after Johnny Kidd died. I think that Demon Records have re-released a couple of their discs.

I remember seeing SAHB in '75 and '76 - as others say a superb live band and a stage show ahead of its time.
It may be of interest to know that the original band - Hugh and Ted McKenna, Chris Glen and Zal Cleminson still play now and again as SAHB and are starting a tour in November - see SAHB There is also a CD released of SAHB with Alex - British Tour 1976 |
