A dose of flu has me confined indoors, so I was going through a big box of old cassettes and I dragged out the 1980 tape-only release "Music For Stowaways" by the British Electric Foundation - basically Ian Craig Marsh and Martyn Ware from the Human League.

It was the first album they made after leaving the band, and made before Heaven 17's first LP.

It consists of nine synth-heavy instrumentals, and, listeninng to it again, I'd forgotten how absolutely bloody fantastic it is - far better than anything they did afterwards.

Anyone else have fond memories of this minor classic, and anyone know if it's been re-released on vinyl or CD?

Kevin (BEF: Music For Stowaways)

(PS The Stowaway was, I think, an early version of the Sony Walkman, no?)

Alex

I've got MOQAD and I'm not that keen on it - it's a collection of not-all-that-great cover versions, although Billy McKenzie's version of Bowie's "The Secret Life Of Arabia" is ace.

How about a song about a Stowaway?
The wonderful 'Che Guevara T shirt' from 'Vuelta' the new album by Richard Shindell.

Beautiful.

Amazing. I lent my tape to someone and never got it back either. What I do still have is a box set of singles called Music of Quality and Distinction. Its total rubbish, completely lacking any quality or distinction, apart from distinctly rubbish. Difficult to pick lowlights but Paula Yates singing These Boots Are Made For Walking is difficult to beat.
