Ok, so who went to WOMAD ? It was incredible ! The range of sounds and fusions of different styles of music there is breathtaking.

The list of music I liked is too long to mention but one stands out. On Sunday afternoon there was a percussion group from Burkina Faso ( sorry I don't have the name). They produced sounds from Djembe and Talking drums that I have never heard before ! The subtle interplay between drummers is something you could only get from the "live" performance.I know that may sound obvious but it really 'hit' home to me while i was there.

The timbre of differing instruments instruments created hidden melodies which I don't normally hear from drumming.

I must say that owning Naim gear for the short time I have has helped me 'listen' to live music again in a different light.
I must also mention that the quality of the sound systems was excellent. Something which is often(surprisingly)lacking in many live gigs I have been to.
Did anyone else have the revelatory experience I felt ?

.....could be that most people who can afford Naim are old enough to have put away their festival shoes. I went to the first Womad.

I hate tents. I love music. Dilemma eh?

Stephen,I would describe WOMAD as a family/grown up festival.
I know plenty of people who make the effort and enjoy live music and festivals during the summer and they are all "old enough to afford Naim"
( whatever age that is ?!).....mind you, none of them own Naim so maybe you are right after all ? wink

I don't know about others, but I hate festivals. I hate tents, crowds, other peoples music, smoking, drugs.....you get my problem?

I had a 'womad' evening with some friends at mine recently. Great music, good company, plenty of tea and no tents.

Regards

Stephen

probably 'old enough' was the wrong phrase. I hated tents when I was 15!

Going to Festivals and not taking drugs is like going to the Pub and not drinking.

Since I no longer take Festival drugs I no longer go to Festivals.

Which is exactly why I don't go to pubs.
