"Sarah Vaughan" on Emarcy/Verve is a good place to start. A classic session from 1954, it features great songs, great players, including Clifford Brown, Roy Haynes, and Herbie Mann, and has quite good sound quality, for the time. Check it out!

Sarah never sang a bad note, but some of her albums are better than others.
My first recommendation would be "Sarah Vaughan in HiFi". Just perfect, with Miles Davis on trumpet. Look for the Columbia six-eye pressing. It's also out on Columbia CD with many alternate takes, although I haven't heard that version.
Another fave is "Your'e Mine, You" on Roulette, arrangements by Quincy Jones. Although some of the songs are a bit string-drenched, most of it is first-rate.
Her live albums smoke as well.(try "After Hours") None of the Sarah Vaughan albums I've bought have been anything less than fine, so it's hard to go wrong.

Totally agree with above posters, cant go far wrong with any album even the later ones. SV on Emercy is v good as is SV with Clifford Brown. If in doubt check on allmusic.com for their recommendations.
Personally, SV is right up there on my favourite Female Jazz vocalist. Really regret missing her last UK performance.
