The first thing to say is that I too have loved REM. I too would never, ever buy Around The Sun. It is dull of the worst kind.

I do however own Accelerate. Basically it is half a great album. The bad half is no different to Adventures, Up, Reveal etc. It kinda grows on you but none of it is essential in any sense. The first 4 songs however are excellent along with Horse To Water. If you liked Reckoning, Document or (less so perhaps) Monster then you will adore these. The best 5 tracks REM have done in at least 15 years by some distance. My only caveat is that the production is awful.

I must be the only REM fan who actually likes Reveal.

No I don't mind it, but for me it has some novelty value as it is one of my 2 DVD-A discs. I only have the kit to play it in Dolby Digital. It was part of my investigation into 5.1 music.

I do quite like Reveal. Taken on its own merits it's a decent enough album. Stood alongside everything pre-Monster it rather pales.
