i saw roxy music on friday at wembley arena. the sound was ok, a bit "direct and reflectin" and not loud enough. but the gig was great, the audience was up for a good time. as they were all fans the band had to waste no time winning us over. we all knew all the songs and all the words, they played all the hits and a good few album tracks. they arent the most dymanic performers but then again they are no spring chickens. they just moved with that reassured almost arrogant but great confidence. mr ferrys voice is still a marvel. as a technical note to tony l, the keyboard player use an ems synthi or aks a la eno. i cant be sure of the exact model as the only view i had of it was during a solo on virginia plain via a video monitor. bryan dances really badly still but looks cool as f##k and all the girls still fancy him. great band. pleased to have seen them. do they make them like this any more? i mean the whole package, radical music, good looks, great packaging for the records etc

did they play this? One of my favorites. Can anyone name the movie that featured this song? Hint: it was directed by Roman Polanski- what a cool movie! david.

I was at a bar on Friday night and they played "Do The Strand". It sounded so fresh again after all these years it was enough to make me go and dig up the vinyl from its home in the garage (love vinyl, hate the space it takes).

ah... yet another one with the same problems as i have, and using the garage to store records and other stuff. the storage space requirement is one aspect that got me thinking about selling off the vinyl part of my system -- we would reclaim a LOT of space ... but i have gone off the idea for now...

mind you, now that i am collecting cd's like there is no tomorrow, that is also begining to create a serious storage space problem. can't win really...

enjoy

Wasn't it "9 1/2 Weeks"? I could swear I heard that song in the movie, but I don't associate Mr. Polanski with it...

Cheers

Keith.

Saw them last night - highly recommend them to anyone living in a yet to be visited city. I was pleasantly surprised - very tight for a group that hasn't played together for nearly 20 years.

Really brought back some great memories and emotions from my days in university.

Roxy Music made a two night stop in New York this week. For any of you US based fans of seventies and eighties rock, if they are still slated to play in your area, they put on a great show, and I would strongly endorse trying to catch them.

With all such reunion tours, there is a high possibility of the experience being best for long time fans, and it did seem to work in that way for many in the audience. As someone who has enjoyed a few of their records, but never really was all that familiar with their work, I loved it. Great tight, scripted, full band treatments of material that I gather covered songs from every era of their output. Brian Ferry is a true original, and the rest of the band was great as well. Wonderful sound, at least from where we sat in the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Enjoy!

Caught the Roxy Music tour last night (Monday 30 Jul) at the Allstate Arena outside Chicago, with Rufus Wainwright opening.

Had not seen a set list on the 'Net, nor considered preliminary reports that the show would be outstanding, even though the sources could be considered accurate.

If you're a Roxy/Ferry fan and near to any of the remaining venues on the tour, I highly recommend the exorbitant ticket price. Buy what you can afford.

Visuals are great, sound was good (considering the notoriously troublesome venue), and the performances by everyone on stage, esp. Phil Manzanera & Chris Spedding on guitar, Bryan Ferry himself, Andy Mackay (playing his best), Paul Thompson and the rest of the lot (standout female violinist/keyboardist + female percussionist) were fantastic. Vintage keyboards abound, including an old Farfisa and a pair of mint EMS VCS3 units sans Brian Eno.

Naturally, I am a huge Roxy fan, but I left the show in tears--this never happens unless all the details are in place, truly the best show I've seen in the last ten years and difficult to beat.

Dave Dever, NANA

P.S. Did I say anything about the ripping solo that Manzanera played at the end of "Ladytron"? Even he was amazed...

Dave at NANA,

Reading your post confirmed my suspician that the superb show Roxy is putting on this tour would be absolutely amazing for long time fans. I know that I was blown away, and I have only really heard them as an omnivorous music fan, I'm certainly not a fan in the sense of deep knowledge of the material, and the great emotional investment that fandom brings. That was, and is, my approach to artists like Emmylou Harris, Tommy Flanagan, Richard Thompson, and above all else for me, the late Jerry Garcia. So, I know what it is to hear songs you never thought you would see again, or at all, played brilliantly and with such great pleasure. There is something unique about great live music, even if we all have the Eagles and Barbara Streisand to thank for the ever skyrocking price of concert tickets.

I'm glad you had such a great experience.

Bruce

Just saw Roxy Music at the Concord Pavillion (about an hour outside of San Francisco), and am reporting back. Like Dave Dever, et al, I was blown away by how great the band sounded. They played nearly everything I could want to hear, with a heavy emphasis on "older" (well, its all old now) stuff. Bryan Ferry looked fantastic, sounded better, and really seemed to be enjoying himself. Roxy Music has been one of my favorite bands of all time, and it really made me feel good to see them playing so well.
