So far it looks like these recordings are only available in Europe and Japan, but sometime they’ll hit the US. (Of course, I may not be able to wait that long.) Looks like EMI started issuing these big sets last year, but the new series has got the most to choose from. It’s a veritable buffet of CDs by esteemed artists for classical music gluttons. Some are most tempting – especially the Richter, Cziffra, Cortot, Nat, Heifetz, and Oistrakh.

I am particularly tempted by the Du Pre (though I own quite a few of the individual discs already) and the Solomon (of which the same could be said, since all the Beethoven is available through Testament).
The other box I'm looking forwards to is a 35 disc set from Brilliant of Alfred Brendel's pre-Philips recordings. George might be interested in this Barbirolli box I spotted the other day (Amazon provides no details of the contents, by they seemed to be his pre-war NY recordings). There is a similar one for Beecham also. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sir-John-Barbirolli-Various-Com...id=1220109875&sr=1-1 regards, Tam |
