A couple of years ago I noticed that some of my CDs had discolured and in some cases were not playing properly.

I did what anyone else here would do and asked the Forum for advice and was pointed in the direction of this article. Basically what this says is that some CDs pressed at the Philips & DuPont Optical site in Blackburn during the late 80s and early 90s are affected by the sulphur in the CD inlays and booklets and turn a sick bronze colour, eventually skipping and/or playing with audible clicks and scratchy sounds.

After messing about for a substantial amount of time, I recently got it together to go through my collection and sent them into PDO for replacement. I ended up sending 10 (mostly Hyperion and Island) and within 10 days I received 9 freshly pressed CDs back (they're still trying to source the 10th, a DG Copland Symphony).

I've subsequently found an Ozrics that's bronzed (but still plays OK) and will have to go back.

So boo to PDO for screwing up in the first place, but hooray to PDO for excellent remedial service.
