Seems he's not had a mention here yet.Anyone out there heard this incredible blues-based guitarist?
I could ramble on all day about what makes him stand out from the crowd, but justice would not be done.
Once described by Jimmy Witherspoon as "The greatest guitarist in the world".Listen for yourself.
Mr Tibbs.
Listening to 'Sunrise'.

Agree entirely that he is a great guitarist; his "Supernatural" CD is his best IMHO.
Eric Bibb's latest CD is also excellent; I saw him live in York earlier this year.
The latest John Mayall CD (&Friends) is highly recommended.
Also recommended are Ainsley Lister and Walter Trout for more rock-based blues.

Should be well known to Joni Mitchell fans, as he was guitarist in Tom Scott's LA Express. Waaaaay back when I had hair.

Tibbs Ford collection,current standing,-
Talk to your daughter.
Tiger walk.
Handful of blues.
RF and the blue line.
Sunrise.
Supernatural.
Tribute to paul butterfield.
Mystic mile.
There is not a dud track never mind album among this lot.Recent stuff has a leaning towards a greater vocal input from ford, the technical mastery of his guitar is still much in evidence though. But don't just think guitar virtuoso,he doesn't overplay to impress,he just makes every note seem important.
His style is drawn from early blues and jazz influences.I'd go so far as to say if you like his blues, then ford might get you into jazz as well.
A good starter for your collection IMO would be Handful of blues.-If that didn't get you hooked, better go back to your AOR stuff.

Give Jonny Lang a listen, he recorded his best albumn when he was about 16.
Blues Move a local band (Ainsley Lister also) are excellent.
I also rate Keb Mo, his albumns are brilliantly recorded.

... is another swampy-blues maestro. I recommend his One Hot July, Path of a Decent Groove, and Lake Placid Blues albums if you can find them.

Jeff Healey, - Cover to Cover,,,worth buying just for Hendrix's Freedom.

Another must is Larry McCray, I have Delta Hurricane, an aptly named album if ever there was one.

I've not heard a lot of his own albums, but I do really like his "Supernatural" CD, which is a very slick, but also soulful recording. He is a much better singer than I would have expected, and his playing surprises and delights me. I saw him play lead guitar in a short lived California jam band that was led by Phil Lesh, the Dead's supremely gifted bass player, and the rhythmn section was Paul Barrere and Billy Paine from Little Feat. For fans of jamming rock, this was a great band, and Robben was such a great addition in that he never aped Garcia nor Lowell George, yet played beautifully in styles that honored both of them at points, yet were distinctly his own.

An LP I have had for years that has a similar feel to at least the Robben Ford CD I mentioned is Kevin Brown's Road Dreams album, which I really enjoy. For fans of dreamier blues based playing, I would recommend seeking out some of Peter Green's comback material from the 80's and later.

I saw him a couple of months ago at the Jazz Cafe in London. He has incredibly long fingers, and can play with his pick, then his fingers, then his pick again. Every time I try this I drop the pick!

His technique, tone and melodic playing are the best I have heard. He uses a custom Fender guitar which looks a bit like a Yamaha SG 2000.

Don't have any of his albums yet though! Don't know where to start.
