Last night Disney hall in LA Bronfman played Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto and then Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. Conductor was a young argentine Quite wonderful to watch from behind the orchestra, he really got into the emotions pulling, cajoling and directing the orchestra with black curly hair bouncing around.

I am so far out of the sticks and it's difficult and expensive to get to gigs that I can't remember. Think it was INXS and they were crap.

Steel Union at a private party (!). "Duo playing authentic traditional acoustic blues; that being acoustic blues mostly from the period 1920 through to 1945 ish. We play the songs of the great Delta and Country Blues players such as Son House, Robert Johnson, Sonny Terry, Lightnin' Hopkins and many more."
Excellent stuff!

Could well believe it as when I saw them on an earlier tour it was the first night and they really bad PA probs and just didn't seem interested in the gig.

Just got back from the Komedia in Brighton. We saw Bellowhead, (think Temperance 7 meet The Dubliners ish.)They call it big band folk and most enjoyable it was too.Standing unfortunately but we managed to find a spot to perch.
A mix of instruments including :- trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, clarinets(various) drums, percussion, squeezebox, accordian, guitar, violins, cello, oboe and pipes.11 players 10 guys 1 girl and great deal of enthusiasm. Good sound, great evening out.

I saw Seth Lakeman at a local pub (The Phoenix in Plymouth) before his national tour.

Absolutely Fabulous.

Neko Case at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel in Adelaide. Absolutely Brilliant-also saw her about a month ago with the New Pornographers at the same venue. A great way to start the New Year!! At the oposite end of the spectrum the BBIG DAY OUT music festival hits Adelaide with TOOL, Muse and the Killers headlining. I'm looking forward to that too.

Feb 5th. Roger Waters at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (think a slightly smaller but way more humid version of Wembley Arena).

First time I'd seen Roger since Sunday June 14 1981 and he was on top form - he even looked like he was enjoying himself. The band were fantastic (but which one is Pink) even though there were a few gaffes ... Snowy White totally screwed the opening guitar part of (a slightly rushed version of) "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and the beginning of "Comfortably Numb" was a bit lame but those were the only dud bits. In a way it was good to see that even seasoned professionals can get it wrong at the worst possible time. I thought Dave Kilmister did a very good job of replicating Dave Gilmour's original guitar solos even though he uses a Tele not a Strat.

Without a doubt the best gig I've seen at this venue and up there with some of the best gigs I've ever seen. If you are a Floydian who is dithering over whether or not to "go the show" later this year in the UK/Europe ... do it - you won't regret it.

Cheers
Scott

Moving Hearts in Vicars Street Dublin.

A truly magnificent concert that got a rapturous reception. The reception was phenomenal considering the instrumental and long nature of the pieces played as well as the total lack of a charismatic "front man".

It was playing of the very finest quality the mix of Uilleann pipe and sax being one of those wondrous combinations when played as well as this.

Line up was:

Donal Lunny,
Davy Spillane,
Eoghan O'Neill,
Keith Donald,
Matt Kellaghan,
Noel Eccles,
Anto Drennan
Graham Henderson
Kevin Glacken.

One nice moment was when Keith was saying that "This tune was written in 1981 a quite different time from now"
girl in audience "Yeah I wasn't born"

all ages were there and we jigged boogied reeled and bopped.

Thanks Chris, nice of you to notice.

I had found that my cyberlife was effecting family life, strange as that may seem, so I had to step back for awhile.

Hopefully I'll get the mix right this time.
