Great article today in the Sydney Morning Herald on Storm Thorgerson who designed many great albums covers but admits as well to a few 'turkeys'.
I will make sure to catch the exhibition of his work at Paddington's Global Galery. http://www.smh.com.au/news/entertainment/arts/sleeve-ge...1/1227979933180.html |

I'm sure the exhibition will be very good, he has produced some great artwork over the years.
Hope you enjoy it.. Mike |

I always find it interesting that Storm Thorgerson takes credit for the 'Dark Side of the Moon' cover, which is mostly George Hardie's graphics, although Storm Thorgerson did photography on the inserts/posters. Still Hardie was working as a freelance artist for Thorgerson's company, so Thorgerson was in editorial control of what was submitted to the band. I do think that some of his later work for Pink Floyd became a bit dull though, more 'how big can we make this setup to shoot' rather than a strong idea ('Momentary Lapse of Reason', 'Delicate Sound of Thunder', 'The Division Bell'). Small quibbles though, as Thorgerson has been responsible for some of my very, very favourite album covers, Pink Floyd 'Atom Heart Mother', and Led Zeppelin 'Presence' among them. Jamie |
