Difficult - I know every HMHB track off by heart and it is beyond me to pick their best album, so I won't even try and with no home to go to then I might as well go to their concerts.

So instead, I'd take this masterpiece because no sane man (or woman for that matter) could ever tire of hearing it.



Anthems in Eden, the 1969 album by Shirley and Dolly Collins with The Early Music Consort of London directed by David Munrow and featuring Christopher Hogwood It's a set of folk songs with musical arrangements for viols, recorders, sackbuts and crumhorns. There's nothing else like it.

The original vinyl issue has only eight tracks. The first track is the Anthems in Eden song-story lasting 28 minutes and 7 seconds. In 1976, Shirley added six tracks with help from the Albion Band and a new album, Amaranth had the original on one side and new recordings on the flip. The 1993 CD combined all the tracks and lasts 69:56.

Phil founded Bam Caruso in 1983 in St.Albans as an extension of Waldo's Records to re-issue long lost 60's gems. His suitably electric catalogue boasted albums by The Ghost, July, Hearts & Flowers, SRC, The Steppes, Nick Haeffner, The Seeds and more, but his crowning glory was Rubble: a set of compilations which together create a definitive overview of freakbeat and pop-psyche styles.

The set was original available as 20 or so vinyl records, but now there are two CD box sets containing 10 discs each. They are not identical to the original vinyl. The CDs collectively offering even more songs.
