Hmm.. I caught the Later performance and just thought that here was an old band many years later going over the same old stuff. Not much humour, a bit pretentious, and dull. I always slightly suspicious of old guys who wear sunglasses indoors too (guitarist) - it just looks really silly. You know, kids can get away with it - all that moody stuff, but as advanced middle-aged bods, they just looked sad. Compare with the likes of others of that era and before who continue to evolve - Springsteen, Elvis Costello, whoever - doing "their hit" on a show like that 15 years later just wasn't up to standard. Sorry.

Well the sound quality isn't great and it does have it's moments but .. think I'm with you on that Ewan.
Thought I quite liked trip-hop but, hmm maybe not. The time methinks has passed.

I have ordered this new album myself, but wait with slightly cautious bated breath.
I WANT to like it, or even want to want to like it. But I was not entirely impressed with 'Machine Gun', given that it is the single to launch the album after a 10-year build up of expectation.
To me it does seem rather derivative - the basic vibe seems to be broadly an electronic version of the backbeat from Hendrix's song of the same name, and then after the 'I feel...' etc lyrics, it turns somewhat into the music from Terminator.
Sorry.

Received this album today, the limited vinyl version with the USB P-Stick and I think it’s fantastic; moody & addictive. Very Portishead but moved on enough to not feel outdated. I find it hard to see how this is not going to be my album of the year.

I got it today but I will have to give it a few more spins before I give my final verdict - it sure is not as bad as some of the reviews it got here in Oz.

Sasha Frere-Jones gave it a glowing review in last week's New Yorker magazine.

I got my copy (double 45rpm vinyl) and it is so badly warped that some tracks won't play. I am using a Rega Exact cart that only has 50 hours on it and i think it may have damaged it. Perhaps not but it does seem to 'ride' a little lower after it tried to track the record. I bought the LP from an ebay shop and have just sent them an email about it. On the LP cover there are no contact details for the manufacturer/record company. Whose responsibility is it? I found this http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/vinyl/messages/75/751616.html . Looks like it could be a problem with this pressing.
