Has anyone heard the new album "3rd" by Portishead?

Any good? Their debut was fab, the 2nd, terrible IMHO.

Brucie,

I didn't think it was out until 28th April? Does anyone know any different?

Ps 2 is different, but not terrible imho. I will certainly be buying 3 though!

Excited about this! I have very fond memories of the two previous albums. As far as I know the release is set to 28th of April.

I read an interview with Colin Greenwood of Radiohead where he states that the new Portishead album sounded "unbelievable" (apparently they been playing new stuff live already).

Sample available on Potishead MySpace

On their website, you can also pre-order the limited edition vinyl Boxed Set.

This is easily my most anticipated album of the year. If the single is anything to go by, it's got a heavy sound to it. Has anyone heard any more?

I think the second album is harder to listen to, but is still great, and I'm listening to the Roseland NYC Live album right now - the performance of 'Roads' is stunning. Though I probably play the solo album Beth made with Paul Webb of Talk Talk (and partly produced by Adrian Utley) more than any Portishead album.

I think I bought the last Portishead studio album on the same day I bought The Verve's Urban Hymns the week they were released. I can't believe it's taken them both over ten years to record a follow up!

It might have taken them over 10 years, but at least the wait's likely to be far more worth it than the wait for the Stone Roses/Elastica/Kate Bush efforts...

I like the idea of a P-shaped USB stick with the music onboard though - that's kind of cool and geeky enough to make me pay that much for the album, since I can burn music from the stick to a CD and have something for my discman Smile Tempting....

I see. The whole album can be downloaded at http://www.mp3search.ru. It's 0.19 cents a track if you join. There is stacks of great music on this site. Most is at 192bits or higher.

I really liked the last Kate Bush effort.

Not so sure about the lastest Portishead single. Maybe it will grow on me, maybe not.

I watched the live in NYC DVD only last night. Still like putting that one on every few months or so.

You can get the new single there for 79p at 320 kbps and DRM free from Island. Personally I think it's rather good.

Hopefully it'll be a good 'un, still play Dummy, but the second album never grew on me. Not to say it's a bad album, it just never clicked with me. I wonder if it will have the 'wiki wikis' and crackle of the previous albums, as this is what dates them. I'll get off to My Space to have a listen

BTW I have a sneaky suspicion the Russian download site in Brucie's post ain't 100% legit!

Portishead are not listed on the BBC later page, are they really on tonight?

Last Kate Bush Album was her best IMO.

Boy those drum sounds on Machine Gun are not casual listening on Naim.

It is not "Dummy" or "Portishead" it is "Third" and it is unique, heavy , hipnotic and magical.

The last one's not TOO bad; I was thinking "Red shoes"; only good bit on that is "Moments of pleasure" - the rest is only generally OK, or filler. She'll never best "The dreaming" or "Ninth wave"-side of "Hounds of love". All IMHO of course.

Now - do I or don't I re the vinyl P3 boxset? Totally skint and need to save for the USA and Glastonbury, but it could be an investment.

I still wish Portishead had put their performance of "Over" from the Brit Awards 1995 on their second album. The studio version sucks in comparison.
