A new thread to avoid confusion (I hope!).

On tonight we have the original line-up of Pentangle, a recently re-formed James,
Mable John, Melody Gardot, the Gutter Twins, & Operator Please.

I am very old according to another forum member - although I like George Formby I wasn't around when he first recorded Mr Wu's A Window Cleaner Now - well much as I have never liked the format of Later ... I can't miss Pentangle.

Why not just give the others the night off though and let Jacqui McShee, John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox do the whole show.

To be fair, I did enjoy the Gutter Twins too. Anyone got their album?

That will be "The Gutter Twins". They were OK, though quite a mix of various bands IMO.
Enjoyed Pentangle.

...I was going to start a thread about Was (Not Was) who were on last weeks show and were excellent

I've loved the Was's since their very 1st Ze Records single "Out Come The Freaks"

Surely they were (are) one of music's most underrated bands?

I liked the Pentangle and the clip of Humph - otherwise was unimpressed - didn't like James at all. Found the show's host unnecessary - prefer the TOTP2 style graphics.

I still think the best pop show the BBC ever did was Disco-2 way back in the very early seventies. It had no host, no chat, just great music. Here's a clip

Ok I guess "band" may be stretching it but Sweet Pea Atkinson and (Sir) Harry Bowens are long standing vocalists along with "Don and Dave" Was

I reckon they are a sort of mutant Disco cousin of Steely Dan - cherry picking guest vocalists to sing their surreal left-field songs ......If you get the chance listen to the early (and weird) "Wheel Me Out" 12" on Ze Records ..The touring band seen on "Later" sounded superb - what chance some UK dates?

The bloke with the tatts is Mark Lanegan. Ex of the Screaming Trees and collaborator with Isobel Campbell (ex Belle & Sebastian).

The album Saturnalia is more of the same, very good it is too.

Seeing the original line-up of Pentangle last night on Later was excellent.

Also enjoyed a couple of the other acts, seemed a better show than the previous ones I had seen a bit of.
