They are playing a concert in a small chapel in a place in France (st. marie aux mines) that we pass when we drive there for holidays.
Looks like a nice program (Beethoven violin sonatas (spring and a few others)/venue (See Harmonia mundi concert details for I. Faust)
How is this disc ?
Mark,
I've just recently started listening to Isabelle Faust and I generally like what I hear. What strikes me foremost is her distinct phrasing and shaping of the musical line as well as her quick but very clean playing. With the Schubert my only quibble would be that I would have preferred the "Andante molto" of the Fantaisie (a favorite of mine) to be more "Andante molto." A touch slower would have allowed them to draw out and search for answers in this profound musical opening.
I would also highly recommend the Beethoven Violin Concerto paired with the Kreutzer Sonata as well as the two Dvorak discs (Violin Concerto, Cello Concerto, and two piano trios). All on Harmonia Mundi and the playing and recorded sound is superb.
I'd drive to France to hear her if I had the opportunity
Regards,
Doug
