I came across an album of music favoured by Anton LaVey’s Church of Satan. I was well aware of LaVey’s links with Boyd Rice so I was expecting some Noise music or maybe a bit of metal bashing – I know Boyd Rice’s political views are vile in the extreme but he’s made some great Noise records, especially the ones that sound pretty much the same no matter what speed you play them at. I wasn’t however expecting the music to be lounge music. Yes it’s true; Satanists don’t listen to grindcore, martial music, neo-folk, noise, illbient, black metal or metal bashing, they prefer Andy Williams, Cliff Richard and The Carpenters. You have been warned. Treat their fans with caution.

Janos Prohaska (1919 – 1974), born in Budapest, was the recurring Cookie Bear on the The Andy Williams Show from 1969 to 1971, as well as playing monsters in The Outer Limits, Lost in Space and Star Trek. Tragically, he and his son Robert were killed along with 34 others on 13 March 1974 when their plane flew into a mountain ridge in darkness near Bishop, California, while filming The Ascent of Man.

The Swedish Christian band 'Jerusalem' plays heavy metal. Probably not backwards, though.
