Having been a little underwhelmed with the Dire Straits SHM CD (largely because the mastering is no different to the SBM release, I suspect) this has arrived in SHM CD form.

Comparing it to:-

The SHM CD is much better. Deeper, wider soundstage, greater clarity. The difference is not small. I suspect the Gateway remastering may play a large part but this SHM CD was well worth the £15 I paid.

I received Bob Marley & the Wailers - Live SHM CD yesterday.
WOW - it's massively better than my TG original release!

CD Japan have just updated their SHM CD list with pre-orders going to June.

Any others that are worth buying? - this will be my first shm cd.

One mans meat is another mans poison, so although I've been really pleased so far buyer beware! Having said that I have been very happy with my purchases of ...

T.REX
Electric Warrior

John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
A Hard Road
Crusade
Blues From Laurel Canyon
John Mayall Plays John Mayall
Bare Wires
Diary Of A Band Volume 1 & 2

I have quite a few on order or pre-order.
I'm going to take a punt because they sell out quickly,
& some of the early (January 2008) releases are now selling for silly £!

The Live CD is from 1975 with the usual recorded concert problems, so of course it's far from perfect. The good news is there's far more detail, the vocals are much clearer & generally the sound is more natural - that is I could believe I was listening to the PA at the concert. I agree with Steve S1 - the Gateway remastering may play a large part in the sonic improvement.

CD Japan are selling them for around £11 - £13 ex' P&P 151.

I've received a few more, but only had a chance to listen to Debut by Bjork so far.
Comparing this to the my Orig' CD ("Made in England") the SHM is far better to my ears. Lots more detail, esp' for percussion. Bass is tighter & vocal is clearer.

I'll post again when I've listened to the others.
Has anyone else got SHM CD listening info' to share?

Cheers - John

£12 + (£3 snail post rate, takes about a fortnight) when I ordered some others. Smile

I also pre-ordered 3 others, prices were £15 each and £22 for a different double disc. Which squares with the single purchase price.

John,

Most shops/suppliers are accessible through Amazon marketplace, Ebay, Google etc. The first prints of early discs have obviously gone and they are now using their ebay shops (such as themusicspecialist) to auction them at high prices.

I haven't found a supplier as good as CDJapan for range but there are odd CDs around if you put in the finger work. I'm pre-ordering as soon as I see stuff now.
