At the moment, he's working on the new No-Man album with Tim Bowness - from what I've heard, it's going to be their best yet.

Regards

Munch,

This is a comprehensive discography of Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson's other Projects here. You can easily download the PDF file (316 pages) and you will see it is a labour of love from Uwe Häberle.

Here is a collection Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson related releases planned this year.

Having been on the road for almost the entirety of 2007, Steven is now busy in the studio working on 2 brand new albums. One of these is his first ever song based solo project, something which will reveal a darker musical side of SW not hitherto heard in any of his other projects. The solo album is a work in progress with no set release date, but material is coming thick and fast, so a release sometime towards the end of this year seems likely.

Also well underway and expected to be issued in May is the first album by No-Man in 5 years. Its current working title is "Schoolyard Ghosts". You can find more information on the no-man MySpace site.

Porcupine Tree will remain active in 2008 with the re-release of their seminal album Lightbulb Sun (April/May?) In deluxe CD/DVD-A and vinyl editions

There has also be mentioned a short Blackfield tour in late spring/early summer

There will be a live album (September?) with possibly a short tour to promote it

Cover Version V (2008?)

Wow - if it is better than "Together We're Stranger", then it is going to be a very special album indeed.

New No-Man album Schoolyard Ghosts coming May 12th

Tim Bowness & Steven Wilson return with No-Man’s sixth official studio album and the band’s first since 2003’s Together We’re Stranger.

Produced and written by No-Man, Schoolyard Ghosts features the hypnotic ballad Wherever There Is Light, the atypically manic Pigeon Drummer and the epic 13 minute semi-orchestral Truenorth, the album represents the most consistent and crafted collection of songs in No-Man’s history and looks set to build and improve upon the success of Returning Jesus and Together We’re Stranger.

Guest musicians include Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree/King Crimson), Bruce Kaphan (ex-American Music Club/Red House Painters), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Dave Stewart (Hatfield & The North/National Health) & Theo Travis (David Sylvian/Gong)

Tracklisting:
All Sweet Things
Beautiful Songs You Should Know
Pigeon Drummer
Truenorth
Wherever There Is Light
Song Of The Surf
Streaming
Mixtaped

Mini-site coming soon here

You might notice from above that Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree/King Crimson) entry. Gavin will be joining King Crimson for a short series gigs in the US only Frown Robert Fripp has detailed reasons why it is not viable to tour in Europe in his Diary at dgmlive.

thanks for the info. nap-ster, duly ordered!

Scottyhammer put me on to PT, who I confess I'd never heard of before. Amazing really because they're a superb band who deserve much greater recognition.

Thanks for the "heads up" nap-ster, mine's ordered as well!

Very much like tonym in the previous post I was a latecomer to their music, but really enjoying it now. It's funny how these bands can be around for so long (and produce a lot of material) without much acknowledgement. Still, better late than never!

I was too late for their last UK tour so hoping that I still get an opportunity to see them in the not too distant future. At the moment it seems as though the only dates are a handful of festivals in Europe. Mind you, a trip over to the Netherlands sounds like it could be fun................ Winker

Mark,

There may be a limted PT tour in late autumn to promote the 'Live' album that will be released around September.

Two more chances of seeing Steven Wilson though will be with no-man and Blackfield tours. Both will be a limted number of gigs, so if you want to venture into melodic but still melancholic moods it might appeal. Try out the no-man and Blackfield MySpace sites and see what you think. I will post tour dates here.

Thanks Denis,

I'll keep an eye out for the other tours. I already have "Blackfield II", and now the first album on order.

Thanks Denis. Excitement rising down here. Even my wife was saying last night how she cannot wait for the show.

On a separate note, I am looking to get some Bass Communion. Any recommendations?

Lontano,

I don't have any bass communion but I and maybe you might consider - ghosts on magnetic tape (double cd)

Now repressed as a double disc including the full length Andrew Liles reconstruction, which SW described as being "even creepier than the original!", this is the third full length album by SW's Bass Communion project and is a one hour work divided into 5 distinct sections. The album is inspired by alleged tape recordings of the dead communicating with the living world, paranormal research most famously practised by scientist Konstantine Raudive in the 1970's. This is a spectral and brooding album, rich with dark clouds of sound, beautiful textures, creepy drones and eerie crackling. It is housed in a beautiful Japanese style thick card gatefold mini LP sleeve. SW considers this to be one of the finest recordings he has ever made.

Check the BC releases at Burning Shed and see what you think.

Update from Burning Shed

A brand new edition of the long out of print 2000 studio album by Porcupine Tree. The album contains the original studio versions of PT classics such as Shesmovedon, Russia On Ice, Hatesong, and Feel So Low, and has been lavishly revamped into a definitive 2 disc set. Disc one is a CD containing a pristine remix / remaster of the album, while disc two is a DVDA (playable on any DVD player) containing the album remixed into 5.1 surround sound (in DVDA and DTS versions), as well as a 24 bit high resolution version of the stereo mix and the original 2000 mix/master. Also included are 5.1 mixes of bonus tracks Disappear, Buying New Soul, and Cure for Optimism, which were recorded during the same sessions. This is the definitive version of one of the essential albums in the PT catalogue.

Update:
For a limited time all copies that are ordered from the PT store will receive a bonus CD containing 2 rarities from the Lightbulb Sun era. "Novak" is an instrumental which was originally issued on the B-side of the 7 inch single of Shesmovedon, but which has never been released on CD before. "Buying New Soul (original instrumental track)" is the
backing track as it was cut live in the studio by the band - at 14.27 it runs almost 4 minutes longer than the finished version since a whole section was removed before being overdubbed with vocals for release on the Recordings CD.

Note: that all orders already placed will automatically have this CD added to their order. The CD is not available to purchase separately and is only included with orders including the pre-order of the 2 disc reissue of Lightbulb Sun.

Preorder now - Shipping from 7th April only from the PT Store (This title is not on general release until 21st April).

I've ordered my copy of WLTS from 'Burning Shed', having heard it sounding very fine indeed at Tony's place the other day.

And it only has to travel from just up the frog!
