Zero 7's - Simple Things. I picked it up during the week on a bit of a punt and really love it. A similar sound to that of Air's Moon Safari but not as "poppy". Much better in my opinion.

Air - 10,000hz Legend. Not bad but I need more time for it. I blame Zero 7 for that!

Llorca - New Comer. If you liked St Germain you'll have to get this as well.

It's a lovely album and I happened to hear track 4 on the radio about a month before its release. Thanks for the post Jay, you jogged my memory to buy it.

Those comparisons to Air are unfair. Simple Things is generally more consistent, whereas Moon Safari peaked with a couple of tracks. There's a great many style differences too, plus Zero 7 are less cheesey (not that, for Air, being cheesey is a bad thing).

I like Zero 7 a lot more than Air but there are a couple of sections that just sound soooooo Moon Safari to me.

Once I'd listened to the Zero 7 CD I had to get it on vinyl and the two EP's they've released. Hence the partner enforced music embargo

There's not enough enough Serge Gainsbourg-esque cheese.

One can draw many comparisons. Take the track "This World", particularly the end of it, and it sounds very similar to late "Yes". "Give it Away" could almost be a Lemonjelly track.

The similaries with Moon Safari I would say are the use of specific sounding instruments. However, the arrangements are far superior. Listen to the "Give it Away" track doesn't it sound like Lemonjelly was given the Moon Safari studio and settings and told to 'get on with it'.

Sorry haven't listened to Lemonjelly. Am I going to have to add it to my growing list? There seems to be a wealth of downbeat/chill music these days.

I think you're right about the common instruments, that's what sounds familar to me. Like you say the arrangements are far superiour.

I'm afraid of listening to it too much, I might get sick of it. If I didn't have a new turntable and 10 years of old records to get re- acquainted with I'd be in serious trouble.
